Thailand Trip Advice

Bangkok is the capital and the largest and primary city of Thailand

BangkokPeople in Thailand call the city Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or Krung Thep, which means “city of angels”.  Bangkok resembles many of the large western cities of the world. Downtown contains many large multi-story buildings, bustling traffic, mass transit, and millions of people everywhere. You can find anything you want in Bangkok in its traditional street shopping markets, or its upscale modern shopping malls which make you feel as if you are shopping in downtown Los Angeles. The street markets offer a variety of products at prices which are always negotiable.
Bangkok is famous as a jewelry destination and a world hub with quality and uniquely designed products offered at competitive prices. With everything ranging from diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires and pearls, to affordable gold, silver and a wide variety of beads. Gold jewelry is available in 18K or 23K gold and is more affordable than many places in the world. Many of the gems sold are mined and finished in Thailand. Bangkok is the location of one of the world’s largest annual gems and jewelry fairs each September.

Due to its location among the Asian nations, Bangkok as grown into a center stage for European powers where many multinational corporations have located their regional headquarters.

As a result of its strategic location, in addition to its historical landmarks, attractions and entertainment, the city has modernized and expanded to keep up with the demands of tourism and business travelers.  Attractions such as the Grand Palace and its thousands of temples, plus the spotted red-light districts draw in 11 million international tourists each year.

The capital is part of the heavily urbanized triangle of central and eastern Thailand which stretches from Nakhon Ratchasima along Bangkok to the heavily Industrialized Eastern Seaboard. Bangkok borders five other provinces: Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom.  It is served by one international airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, four rapid transit lines operated by the BTS, MRT, and the SRT, with plans to add eight more by 2020.
